1. These terms
These terms apply when you use lanternfilmhouse.com, create an account, buy a ticket or watch a film. By doing any of those things you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not buy a ticket.
Our Privacy Policy and Refund Policy form part of these terms.
2. Who we are
Lantern Film House, a film studio based in Lagos, Nigeria. You can reach us at hello@lanternfilmhouse.com.
3. Your account
We create an account for you automatically when you buy a ticket, using the name and email you provide. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details private and for everything done through your account.
Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used your account. Do not share your sign-in details — doing so is a breach of these terms and may result in your access being withdrawn.
4. What a ticket is
A ticket gives you a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to stream one film, once, within the access window described below. It is not a sale of the film.
You do not acquire any ownership of, or rights in, the film. All rights remain with Lantern Film House and its licensors.
5. Your access window
Unless stated otherwise on the ticket page:
- No ticket plays before the published release date and time.
- You have 48 hours to start watching, counted from the release for tickets bought beforehand, and from purchase for tickets bought afterwards.
- Once you press play, you have 24 hours to finish. This runs separately, so starting late does not cut you off mid-film.
- When the window closes, access ends. You can buy another ticket to watch again.
We show the time remaining in My Cinema and email you before your window closes.
6. Devices
Each ticket allows a set number of devices to play at the same time — one for a Standard ticket unless the ticket page says otherwise. You may move between your own devices; what is limited is simultaneous playback.
A ticket is for you and the people in your household watching with you. It is not a licence for a public screening, a commercial exhibition, or an event.
7. What you must not do
You must not:
- download, record, screen-capture, re-stream or copy any film
- share, sell, or give away your ticket, sign-in details or any playback link
- remove, obscure, crop or interfere with the watermark
- attempt to circumvent the encryption, access controls or device limits
- show a film publicly or charge others to watch it
- use automated tools to access the site or the films
8. Watermarking and enforcement
Every film carries a watermark showing the email address of the account watching it. This is explained in our Privacy Policy.
If a copy of one of our films is distributed without permission and carries your watermark, we may suspend or close your account, refuse future sales, and pursue any remedy available to us. Our films are protected by copyright in Nigeria, the United Kingdom and internationally.
9. Age ratings
Our films carry age ratings shown on each film page. Our current release is rated 16+. By buying a ticket you confirm you meet the age rating, and you are responsible for who watches on your account.
10. What you need to watch
You need a reasonably current browser, a working internet connection and a device that supports encrypted playback. We deliver the film at a quality suited to your connection.
We cannot guarantee uninterrupted playback on every device or network. If you are unsure, watch the trailer first — it uses the same player technology.
11. Price and payment
Prices are shown in Nigerian Naira and include any applicable tax unless stated. Payment is taken at checkout through our payment provider. Your ticket is issued once payment clears.
We may change prices for future sales at any time. A change never affects a ticket you have already bought.
12. Availability
We aim to keep the cinema available, but we may suspend it for maintenance, or withdraw a film where we must for legal or licensing reasons. If we withdraw a film while you hold a valid, unused ticket, we will refund you.
13. Reviews and anything you post
Only viewers who have watched a film may review it. Reviews are moderated before publication.
Please do not post anything unlawful, abusive, misleading, or that spoils the film for others. We may decline to publish, edit for length, or remove anything that breaches this.
By submitting a review you give us permission to publish and quote it on our site and in our marketing, alongside your first name and general location. You can ask us to remove it at any time.
14. Suspending or closing your account
We may suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, particularly sections 7 and 8, or if we reasonably suspect fraud. Where it is fair to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
You can close your account at any time by emailing us. Closing it does not automatically refund unused tickets — see our Refund Policy.
15. Our responsibility to you
We are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable.
We do not limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Otherwise, our total liability for any ticket is limited to the amount you paid for it.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
16. Things outside our control
We are not liable for failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including network or power failures, acts of government, or failures at a third-party provider. If such an event prevents you using a ticket you have paid for, contact us and we will reissue it or refund you.
17. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the courts of Nigeria have jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer resident in the United Kingdom or the European Union, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country of residence, and you may bring proceedings there.
18. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your purchase is the one published when you bought your ticket. We will tell account holders by email about significant changes.
19. Contact
